As the Hockey Writers’ Club (HWC) moves well into its fifth decade, the media landscape has shifted dramatically in the last few years.
Now we are seeing hockey clubs set up newsletters, servicing social media and even forward-thinking clubs producing podcasts and videos to entice members.
Meanwhile, we are seeing more local photographers (both professional and amateur) get involved with clubs.
HWC is actively seeking more members to join our long-standing club.
The more members we can activate, the more we can help in terms of connecting with other members and exchanging ideas, or even if assistance is needed and we can help or guide in any way.
This goes alongside our existing membership base as we continue to navigate the media space towards a digital-first landscape.
HWC goes global
For the 2026 Hockey Writers’s Club annual awards presentation in London, we will be presenting a global player of the year award.
We are aiming to sign up more overseas members in the coming months, especially with FIH qualifiers and the men’s and women’s World Cup, the 2027 EuroHockey and then the LA Olympics on the horizon.
With the influx of European and continental media and different nations offering press facilities at tournaments, the HWC should be the first port of call should problems arise.
We also aim to be a positive presence at events, with meet-ups for our global media audience.
