PHIL ROPER was the Man of the Match with two goals as England League winners Wimbledon upset the form book with a 3-1 win over three-time champions UHC Hamburg at the Euro Hockey League KO16 in Eindhoven.

Under coach Ben Hawes, Wimbledon’s progress into KO8, the quarter-final stage, on their second appearance at the EHL, was the best performance by an English club since Reading in 2013 and banished the memory of last year’s 3-1 defeat by Amsterdam at the KO16 stage.

Peter Savage's life was celebrated by some 200 guests at the Kingswood Chapel, Worthing Crematorium, on Monday afternoon.

Those remembering Peter included Olympic Games gold medallists Helen and Kate Richardson-Walsh and England Hockey chief executive Sally Munday. Representatives of the Hockey Writers' Club and the Hockey Museum also attended.

The Hockey Writers Club’s inaugural Graham Wilson award for services to hockey media was awarded to George Brink at the annual awards presentation lunch on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Royal Thames Yacht Club, Knightsbridge, London.

The recipients of the Hockey Writers’ Club Higgins Group youth and junior player of the year awards for 2016 have been chosen with the presentations made at the annual awards presentation lunch on Wednesday January 25, 2017 at the Royal Thames Yacht Club, Knightsbridge, London.

Mr Richard Higgins, Chairman of the Higgins Group plc, will present the awards. The UK players of the year for 2016 will also be announced at the lunch.
